CLASS 11 PHYSICS

Waves

Study how disturbances transfer energy through media and space.

Learning objective

Use wave terms, speed relationships and superposition ideas.

State Board to NCERT bridge

From sound and ripples to wavelength, frequency and wave behaviour.

Tamil concept bridge

Wave energy-ai transfer seyyum; medium particles-oda net transport seyyadhu.

GUIDED LESSON

Learn the chapter step by step

Read one concept, explain it in your own words, then connect it to the formula or situation that follows. Do not try to memorise the chapter as isolated definitions.

A wave transfers energy and disturbance without carrying matter overall from source to destination. Classify waves by particle motion relative to propagation.

Tamil support: Wave energy-ai transfer seyyum; medium particles-oda net transport seyyadhu.

Ask yourself: Can I give one everyday example of wave motion?

WORKED EXAMPLE

Wave speed

Given: A wave has frequency 5 Hz and wavelength 2 m.

  1. 1Use v = f lambda.
  2. 2Substitute f = 5 Hz and lambda = 2 m.
  3. 3Multiply frequency by wavelength.

Answer: Wave speed = 10 m/s.

FORMULA / FACT BANK

Know what each relationship means

Wave speed

v = f lambda

Speed equals frequency times wavelength.

Memory cue: transverse and longitudinal · superposition · standing waves · sound waves

SELF-CHECK

Which concept should you start with?

Choose the core foundation concept for this chapter.

COMMON MISTAKES

  • Do not use a formula before identifying the physical quantities and their SI units.
  • Keep direction, sign convention and stated conditions visible throughout a solution.
  • Check whether your answer has a sensible unit and magnitude.

REVISION PLAN

  1. 1. Re-read the visual summary and say each revision target aloud.
  2. 2. Redo the worked example without looking at the steps.
  3. 3. Complete the 80-question bank and revisit every incorrect explanation.
